Shawn Rennie

Owner and Head Coach

I’m Shawn Rennie, Head Coach, 42 years young, professional girl dad to two tiny tornadoes who keep my heart full and my house loud. I’ve been rolling on a skateboard since age 10, and I still chase that same rush every time the wheels start humming.

I’m powered by music, art, and the kind of creativity that sneaks up on you while your kids are asking for snacks. Back in the day I played soccer, shredded on a snowboard, launched myself on a BMX, and battled my way through enough video games to consider myself at least a part-time digital warrior.

Now I get to mix all that into coaching: a swirl of joy, balance, patience, and a few dad jokes I pretend aren’t dad jokes. Life’s good when it’s rolling. 🛹🎶🎨

Mike York

Private/Group Manager & Pro Skater

Hey everyone, I’m Mike York — former pro skater, current dad, husband, and coach here in sunny Santa Clarita, CA. I spent years traveling, filming, skating contests, and living the pro skate dream… and now I get to pass all that knowledge on to the next generation (which honestly might be even cooler).

These days, I trade the pro-tour flights for school drop-offs, and late-night sessions for early-morning coaching — and I love it. Being a dad opened up a whole new side of skating for me, and helping young skaters grow, progress, and find their style has become one of my favorite things.

Whether I’m teaching foot placement, cheering on a first drop-in, or trying to convince kids that stretching is actually important, I’m here to share the joy of skateboarding with anyone willing to roll.

Let’s skate, smile, and have some fun out there! 🛹✨

Sam I.

Roller Skate - Head Coach

I’m Sam Irwin, your Roller Skate Head Coach and resident chaos-powered college student. I’ve been rolling around on eight wheels long enough to know that skating is basically flying… just closer to the ground and with a little more glitter.

I’m all about keeping things creative, inclusive, and kind — whether that means teaching new skaters how to balance, helping them find their groove, or cheering someone on after a slightly dramatic tumble (we’ve all been there).

Skating is my happy place, coaching is my passion, and building a space where everyone feels welcome is what I do best. Let’s roll! 🛼✨

Seriously! But don’t take our word for it, here are some things people have to say about us.

We signed Bluey up for a skateboard lesson with Coach Shawn, thinking it would be a quick activity before snack time. Cut to 20 minutes later and both kids are obsessed, Bandit is asking questions about stance, and I’m wondering why we didn’t do this sooner.

Coach Shawn was calm, encouraging, and somehow managed to explain balance in a way that made sense to a six-year-old and a grown man who thinks he can still shred. Bluey felt confident right away, Bingo cheered from the sidelines, and there were zero meltdowns—which honestly deserves its own medal.

Five stars for patience, positive vibes, and making skating feel fun instead of scary. Bluey asked if Coach Shawn could come back tomorrow. Bandit asked if adults get lessons too. We’ll be booking again. 🛹✨

We enrolled our daughter, Wednesday, in a roller skating lesson with Coach Sam to see whether joy could coexist with wheels. To our mild surprise, it can.

Coach Sam was patient, composed, and completely unfazed by Wednesday’s preference for falling “dramatically” rather than safely. Instructions were given clearly, encouragement was offered sparingly (which Wednesday appreciates), and progress was made without excessive smiling or forced cheer.

By the end of the lesson, Wednesday was gliding confidently, had only threatened the pavement once, and described the experience as “acceptable.” This is high praise in our household. Coach Sam has a calming presence, an admirable tolerance for darkness, and an excellent understanding of balance—both physical and emotional.

We will be returning. If nothing else, roller skating appears to be an efficient way to build character, resilience, and a healthy respect for gravity.

We signed Bart up for an advanced skateboard lesson with Coach Mike York through the Push Academy, mostly because he said he was “already the best” and needed to prove it. What we didn’t expect was to see him actually work harder than we’ve ever seen him work at anything—including getting out of chores.

Coach Mike didn’t let Bart coast on talent. Every trick was earned. When Bart missed something, Mike pushed him to try again, break it down, and go further than Bart thought he could. There were moments Bart wanted to quit, moments he wanted to blame the board, and moments he stared at the ground like it had personally betrayed him. And then… he landed it.

By the end of the Push Academy session, Bart wasn’t just doing harder tricks—he was focused, determined, and talking about consistency, commitment, and becoming Skater of the Year. I’ve never heard those words come out of his mouth before. Coach Mike made Bart believe that effort matters just as much as style—and that even the hardest tricks are possible if you’re willing to put in the work.
